Mosè Bianchi (1840-1904)

The painting, which is signed and dated (1899), dates from the maturity of the Monza-born master. A young woman is nursing her baby, tenderly gazing at him. The painting is dominated by light, the effect of which is amplified by the white dress of the mother and by the little sheet in which the baby is wrapped, and the entire scene is rendered with a style that achieves an interesting degree of realism through rapid brushstrokes.
