PAOLO AND FRANCESCA
MOSE’ BIANCHI

The painting, made by the artist around 1877, is a preparatory study for the fresco in the library of Villa Giovanelli in Lonigo, near Vicenza.
The work as a whole shows evident influences from Tiepolo, which are nevertheless loaded with late romantic pathos, thanks to the palette deliberately played on contrasts between extremely dark and very bright tones.
