San Sepolcro svelato

The refined volume San Sepolcro svelato, published for the Veneranda Biblioteca Ambrosiana by Nomos Edizioni in 2018, with the contribution of Centro Studi Grande Milano, presents the results of the restoration work carried out in 2003-2010 in a “pivotal place for Milanese culture ”(LC Schiavi), center of the civil and religious soul of the Lombard metropolis.

Giovanni Romano praises “the enlightened wisdom of those who have begun the recovery of a church of prestigious antiquity in the heart of Milan”, allowing us to contemplate again the vault decorated with stars and with red, yellow and green petals. Pinin Brambilla Barcilon, who curated this edition and directed the restoration work, defines it almost “a vision of Paradise ”. The publication of this volume further contributes to the knowledge of the Ambrosiana’s cultural and spiritual heritage, centered on places that symbolize fruitful exchanges between men and peoples, between Milan, Rome and Jerusalem. The work will be presented by Pietro Cesare Marani, Professor of History of Modern Art at the Politecnico di Milano, who in 2009-2015 curated the exhibitions on Leonardo da Vinci at the Ambrosiana.
