Leonardo da Vinci
and his legacy.
The artists and the techniques

The exhibition is extended until March 1!

The exhibition is the last appointment of the cycle of four exhibitions, conceived by the Collegio dei Dottori of the Biblioteca Ambrosiana and curated by leading experts of the Tuscan master, under the patronage of the National Committee and the Territorial Committee for the celebrations of the 5th centenary since Leonardo da Vinci’s death.
Leonardo and his legacy, curated by Benedetta Spadaccini, presents 30 drawings made by Leonardo and by the artists of his circle , dating from the end of the fifteenth century until the first decades of the sixteenth century.
The exhibition reveals the profound resonance that Leonardo’s teaching in the field of drawing had on his students, his followers and Lombard artists of the time, thanks to the innovations that the Florentine genius introduced, some due to his Florentine education, others linked to his experimental aptitude.

The exhibition itinerary starts with eight drawings by Leonardo, continues with works by Francesco Napoletano, Marco D’Oggiono, Giovanni Agostino da Lodi, Francesco Melzi, Bernardino Luini, Cesare da Sesto and ends in the Sala Federiciana with the works of the Master of the Sforza Altarpiece and Giovanni Antonio Boltraffio, alongside eight drawings from the Codex Atlanticus.
An educational section offers the opportunity to admire some of the materials that were used at the time to draw, with crayons, compasses and metal points, partly derived from Leonardo’s projects.
Official partner of the Veneranda Biblioteca Ambrosiana is Fondazione Fiera Milano, which has actively collaborated both in the cycle of initiatives dedicated to Leonardo’s celebrations, and the enhancement of Raffaello Sanzio’s Preliminary Cartoon for the fresco of the School of Athens in the Vatican.
